coming-out/sapphic awakening

Coming-out refers to the process in which a person discloses their sexual orientation or gender identity to others. This can happen either through an internal coming-out, where you become aware of your sexual orientation or gender identity yourself, or through an external coming-out, where you open up to your social environment.

Sapphic awakening generally refers to a lesbian or sapphic identity, and potentially a realization or acceptance of one’s attraction to women, as in the context of literature to describe stories about a character’s lesbian awakening or exploration of their sexuality.
