Where the Light Plays by C. Fonseca is an astonishingly well written romance novel. Her writing style is fluent and eloquent. This makes it a very enjoyable read. I enjoyed it very much and I’ll definitely read it again.

What’s more important, a carrier you have been working towards your whole life or the love of your life? Making that choice isn’t always easy but it’s the dilemma that Caitlin Quinn is facing after she meets Andi Rey. Both their reservations and trepidations crumple as the two women are drawn together.

You can expect a beautiful romance plot line but this book, to me, is so much more because the author has incorporated the beauty of The Great Ocean Road region – a beautiful stretch of coastline in Victoria Australia – in a unique and sensitive way. She, furthermore, uses Andi’s skills as a painter and various painting techniques to express Andi’s feelings and emotions.

I truly hope there’s more to come from C. Fonseca.

I enjoyed this book immensely; it really is my cup of tea. It is soundly written with lovable central characters and an interesting support cast of family and friends in both Australia and Ireland. Although it is essentially an Australian story it has universal themes, in particular the struggle and pain experienced when two people from lands far afield fall in love.

The subtle humour and dialogue is decidedly Australian and will appeal to those familiar with our vernacular as well as those wishing to learn more about Australian culture.

As Andi introduces Caitlin to surfing, bush walking and the surrounding landscape of her seaside town, the descriptions are very real and at times lyrical.

There are extremely emotional moments in the novel, especially as Caitlin and Andi must navigate their growing attraction coupled with doubts, attacks of self-destructive anger and frustration.

    I thoroughly recommend this book.

Andi is a surfer chick who has a wicked way with paint and brushes. Shes getting ready for her first solo show and doesn’t have time for a relationship. Besides, there aren’t many women in the area that aren’t just passing through sooner or later. After her last girlfriend left her after two years, to return home after her visa was up, without looking back she is reluctant to date anyway. Caitlin is an art professor who is in Australia to catalogue her Grandaunt’s collection. She is only there for a year before she is to return home to Ireland. When Andi and Caitlin meet, sparks fly but neither of them are ready for anything serious but what will happen to them if their hearts can’t handle casual?

This excellently written book will quickly immerse you into its tale. This authors uses descriptive imagery to pain the story with words. You will almost see and smell the ocean, fields, and the vivid paints that Andi uses as she creates her stunning, emotional masterpieces. You will hear the birds and insects, the crash of the waves and smell the vibrant flowers and to die for meals the duo share.

I quickly fell in love with both Andi and Caitlin. Andi is a bit shy and introverted yet adventurous and full of fire. Caitlin is a bold and intelligent extrovert whose life’s passion is art. They are both full of a zest for life and love to travel around the area exploring and discovering… They are so beautiful and sensual, both lighting desires in the other with just a look. They are faced with such difficult choices but in the end all is well and I am ever so content.

If you enjoy leisurely paced books, where the setting is painted in vivid detail, this could be just the ticket.

Personally, I prefer stories where the characters are the main focus and the setting is secondary. It’s a difficult balance, I know.
