Description

This cracking adventure with a side of romance is for lovers of tough, jaded, lesbian cops, superheroes and villains, and feisty retirees who don’t take retirement lying down.

Agent Geena Fox is counting down the days to her retirement. On one bittersweet day six years ago, her team of superheroes defeated Jewel, the world’s most evil villainꟷbut Geena’s secret lover died in the process. Now her boss has assigned her a rookie partner, Leigh Walker, and that’s the last thing Geena needs. She sends the woman off on a wild goose chase searching for a long-lost missing person to get her out of her sight. However, what Leigh finds will turn Agent Fox’s world upside down.

Meanwhile, over in a retirement home in Missouri, four old women sharing the surname Power are arousing suspicion with their strange behavior. Their nosy nurse is convinced they are not what they seem. Geena and Leigh meet with the mysterious Powers, and realize the women might hold the key to stopping Jewel, once and for all.

Love this book and the geriatric superheroes!!! All characters are amazing, it’s a very good story and the dialogues between cousins it’s exactly the crazy thing you expect between a group of friends who are together for years and they love to goad each other. Great read. I really recommend this book.

What a treat for people who love super hero stories.
A unique group of women find themselves facing a deadly threat from someone they know quite well.
How can they possibly defend themselves? They are old,and worn out with aching joints and have nothing to look forward to except one boring day after another in a nursing home.
Then along comes Agent Geena Fox begging for their help.
Are you ready for a fun story told by a clever author?
    Enjoy this one!

Superheroes, hot federal agents and an evil baddie mixed together to make a funny, exciting and empowering new novel from A.L. Brooks. ‘Never Too Late For Heroes’ is the story of Agent Geena Fox, an agent just waiting for retirement, and her involvement with a group of very special old ladies in a care home in Missouri. When Agent Fox is assigned a new young partner, she is surprised when Leigh Walker comes back from a routine missing persons case with an unexpected and welcome piece of information. Information that will lead her on a dangerous path back to some old friends and a foe that refuses to go away.

The characters were engaging and full of surprises. Although Geena Fox had a tendency towards gruffness and irritability, she was actually a principled woman, with an important job and a big secret. I liked seeing the vulnerable side of her and the change in her behaviour when she was around one particular person. Her formidable reputation was well-deserved, but there was so much more to her. Her new partner, Leigh, was nervous and unsure at first, but she had steel and as her confidence grew, she really shone. The romantic element of this story was very sweet, especially with Agent Walker and the object of her affection. My favourite characters though were the Powers. Those older ladies were adorable and feisty and hilarious. The mix of personalities worked so well. When the adventure kicked into gear it really held my attention. I loved it.

I was given this ARC for review.

Now this is what I call an adventure novel!
Just take one agent waiting for retirement, add in a green rookie partner, four retired superheroes currently living at the Hazy Daze Nursing Home, one nosy nurse, and a super villain everyone thought was dead. Add in a few surprising characters and a little romance (two romances actually), and you have Never Too Late for Heroes by A.L. Brooks.

The characters really do make this story something special, especially the Power ladies. They are not only superheroes; they are super people that I would love to hang out with. They are funny, quirky, irreverent, and sweet. The story itself is interesting and keeps you reading. The romances are heartwarming.

I had a lot of fun reading this novel. If you love a good adventure with some very special superheroes and a bit of lovely romance, try this book.

I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing for an honest review.

That’s in exchange of an honest review that I received an ARC of « Never Too Late for Heroes » (The Superheroine Collection – Book 6) by A.L. Brooks from Ylva Publishing…

Thank you so much for providing me this book. …

    My rating : 5 ⭐️

OKAYYYYYYYYYYYYY … long story, short : It was a fabulous book that I couldn’t put down … I definitely had a blast while reading it !!! But since the review must be a tad longer than that, here it is in its extended version !!! 😋😂🤣

The story sets in the US (in various locations) and focuses, or at least we think it does, on Agent Genna Fox who is a legend in the Agency & has been desk sitting for the last six years while counting her days until retirement… & on Agent Leigh Walker, Genna’s rookie partner. But there’s more depth in the book than we think … Because, « on stage », between others, we also find some feisty retirees : Reed, Mary, Sunny and Val Power, four cousins who are calling Hazy Days Residential Care « home » for the past six years but don’t take retirement lying down and Dana Chapman, a newly hired and very nosy nurse at Hazy Days : she’s a real busybody, and, accordingly, in constant need to snoop especially around the intriguing Power cousins … Once they’ll be all reunited for some reasons (you’ll have to read the novel to know wich one 😉 ), they’ll all lead us is a cracking, funny, exciting and empowering adventure with a lil touch of romance …

    The Pros :
° the author’s great writing style
° the very original « combination » giving the story all its sense… Which one ??? This one => in there we don’t have 1 or 2 lead characters … nope … we’ve got a pack of 8 MCs composed by : a seasonned agent waiting for retirement, four retired superheroes without any power since a while, 1 superheroine presumed dead but Agent Fox (aka her secret lover) never gave up on her, a rookie agent & a very nosy nurse… All those people will end up assembled to take down 1 supervillain, one who was also supposedly dead …
° the aging MCs (superheroes or not). I loved this fact since we always need more diversity in our lil niche. Older characters are very welcome since I’m no cougar and, like anyone else, I’m not getting younger… & TBH, I prefer reading books staring mature characters …
° the two different rom arcs found in this novel. OK, they are at the minimum romance level (that’s not the first purpose of the book after all ) but, like me, I think a lot of people will fall for them nonetheless …
° a LOT of humor is found in there. There are some very funny stuff all the novel long but some other stuff are just hilarious & I laughed out loud, a lot. It was soooooooooo good !!!
° the comic book side of the novel… OK, that’s not a graphic novel but it’s here nonetheless. While reading this novel (instead of some traditional comic books) I dived in a « universe » I really appreciated … Great job Ms Brooks !!! ‘cause it really was like reading the scenario of a great comics movie that I’d love to watch on a big screen … I didn’t have any trouble picturing all those ladies, the great group dynamics, the action & the funny banters in my mind’s eye … I didn’t eat any pop-corn, though. BUT if someone wants to shoot this movie someday, you can be sure I’ll go to the cinema and enjoy it and, for once, I’ll even take a full(and huge) bucket of caramelized pop-corn 😜

The Cons : maybe, for some people, there are some but not for me … + even if there were some, there are so many « Pros » we can oppose to them that they wouldn’t even deserve to be mentioned.

If I had to make a very short and quite different version of my review, it’d be something like this :
Did I enjoy this book? => Hell, yes !!!…
Did I find the characters believable? => Yes
Is this book now included in my « must be re-read »-list? => Yes
Will I purchase the paperback? => Yes, ASAP
Would I read another book by this author? => Definitely, yes … I can’t wait for the next novel !
Would I recommend this book => Yes, to everyone but espcecially to the comic books fans

    Happy reading, all !!! 🦸‍♀‍💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🦸‍♀‍

    :

This story was delightful! I’m not normally a big fan of superhero stories, but one thing you can say about AL Brooks is that in her eight books, she’s never written the same story twice. There really is something for everyone here … second chance romance, age range of main characters from 20s to 60s, and the chance for aging superheroes to reclaim their powers. This story is just what we need during these turbulent times.

Whoo, did I just had fun reading A.L. Brooks’ turn on the superhero genre!
The heroines we’re talking about might have just got out of “Hazy Days” a picturesque retirement home, but – to speak with Dana Chapman, the very cute and very nosy nurse – “oh lordy” do they have 💥💥💥💥💥!
Great adventures will await you, hot mid-fifties, adorable rookies and when it’s not about plotting plans, kickin’ ass or fighting evil, it’s all about ❤

𝗧𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗶𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 – 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲!

    (verified owner):

This is a great read. I loved the mixture of characters, humour, adventures and romance. The Powers were people I’d like to spend time with:-) I’ve not read any of the superhero stories before as I am not usually interested in this type of story, but I’m glad the reviews changed my mind. It’s a fun read and I’ll definitely be reading more of the author’s books after this.
