I read this for the 2026 Sapphic Book Bingo Hidden Gems reading challenge for the prompt Supportive Ex.
I was excited to read this book, it has an Age Gap, Forced Proximity, andGrumpy/Sunshine tropes, I was basically destined to love this book.
Quick Thoughts:
– I, along with oodles of other people in the world, had never heard of aphantasia before this book and was just fascinated by it
– On the other hand, I have heard of professional cuddlers but honestly never gave it much thought; this book has now made me curious
– Watching a prickly ice queen melt for their person is so fun
– Julian is a first class AH. I absolutely hated him
– Haha! When Winter messaged her right forearm and grumbled about how she’s out of shape and it’s good thing she doesn’t have a girlfriend had me giggling
– Hey! That’s the cover for “Damage Control” on the side table!
– Hannah’s dad and friends are a hoot
– I really liked how Winter and Hannah, once they aren’t trying to purposely get on each other’s nerves, not only communicate but actually listen to what is being communicated, like the hiccup with the massage chair
– At times I wanted to strangle Brooke but I do understand that she was manipulated and used by Julian too
– Abby Caden is always a delight to listen to and this is no exception. She makes dialogue very easy to follow and conveys emotions well. She’s on my list of narrators that I will pick up a book just because she reads it
Overall I enjoyed this book so much that I took so long to read this because I didn’t want it to end. Jae does a great job writing emotions in a way that flows and makes total sense in the story. This was such a fun book.
